French Open: Chinese teenager Zheng Qinwen excited to face World No.1 Iga Swiatek – She is a great clay-court player
19-year-old Zheng Qinwen from China said that she has butterflies in her stomach ahead of her match against World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the fourth round of the French Open 2022. On Monday, May 30, Qinwen will lock horns with the Polish star after beating France's Alize Cornet 6-0, 3-0.
The 20-year-old Swiatek is currently on a 31-match winning streak and will go into the next round after beating Montenegro's Danka Kovinic in straight sets. Qinwen lauded Swiatek for playing exceptionally well on clay, but also talking about trying to put in her best efforts.
"She's a wonderful player. Actually, I have been preparing for this match, because I really want to play against her. I'm excited for this match," Qinwen was quoted as saying to the reporters.
"I didn't watch a lot how she plays, but I know that she's a great clay-court player. That will be a tough match, for sure. I will give everything I have," she stated.
Earlier, Qinwen knocked former World No.1 Simona Halep out of the competition after winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 at Court Simonne-Mathieu. In the first round, she got the better of Ukraine's Maryna Zanevska.
Qinwen also spoke about her childhood dream of visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
"About Paris, when I was young in school, in lot of Chinese books they have Eiffel Tower pictures. So when I was young, for me, the Eiffel Tower in Paris was like a dream place. I never thought I could be there. It was really nice to be here in Paris, yes," she added.
