A day after the Indian Premier League final, a BCCI source revealed to The Times of India that Rahul Dravid will be taking over the position of the Indian Head Coach shortly after the T20 World Cup 2021 concludes.

Despite multiple reports coming in recent days that suggested that the former Indian skipper had politely declined the BCCI’s offer stating that he wanted to focus on improving the young cricketers of the country as the director of the National Cricket Academy, it can be confirmed that ‘The Wall’ is set to replace Ravi Shastri as the head of the coaching staff. Dravid’s tenure is scheduled to begin with New Zealand’s tour of India in the second half of November.

While the news of Dravid taking over command is exciting and has brought a big smile to the faces of the die-hard Indian cricket fans, most of them also remembered to honour and congratulate Shastri for having an exceptional tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team over the past four years.

From having India top the ICC rankings in Test cricket for the fifth consecutive year to winning two consecutive red-ball series on Australian soil to break India’s dreaded record Down Under, Shastri’s time with the Men in Blue has only seen the progress graph go upwards.

When the fan base of a cricketing squad is as passionate as Indians are, it can be a bit difficult to be the person who is supposed to have answers to failures.

On numerous occasions, Shastri has not only been heavily criticised for his position in the Indian dressing room, but he has also fallen prey to multiple personal attacks about alcohol consumption and falling asleep during matches.

While his achievements as the head coach remain impressive, it is also his incredibly positive attitude and patience to endure such social media toxicity with a smiling face that feels like a cherry on top for the man that Ravi Shastri is.

There is still about a month left before Shastri has to step down from his position and ahead of him lies arguably the greatest opportunity to go out with a bang.

On 24th October 2021, his boys will begin their campaign to win the T20 World Cup 2021 and it will be the greatest farewell gift any coach would ever dream of.
