The Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) has written to Chief Justice of India NV Ramana with a request to allow hybrid hearing of cases on August 11 on account of the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

Raksha Bandhan is on Thursday, August 11, which is a working day as per the Supreme Court's calendar.

The SCAORA has on behalf of the members of the bar, requested that if the court is not inclined to declare August 11 as a holiday, then it may at least permit all the members of the bar to appear before all courts through virtual mode, in addition to appearance through physical mode.

The letter has pointed out that requests were made to the CJI earlier to declare August 11 as Court Holiday on account of Raksha Bandhan. However, the same was denied.

The association has further requested the Supreme Court judges to not pass any adverse orders in the matters listed on August 11 merely on account of non-appearance of the advocates.

The letter has requested the judges to be lenient in accommodating the requests or letters being circulated by the members of the Bar seeking accommodation in matters listed on August 11.

The president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, senior advocate Vikas Singh, had earlier this month requested CJI NV Ramana to declare a court holiday on Raksha Bandhan. He suggested that the Saturday after Raksha Bandhan could be made a working day instead.

The CJI had said that he will have to consult other judges before taking a decision in this regard.
