Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka said that she's pretty 'OK' with attending press conferences, but also talked about facing bouts of anxiety occasionally. The 24-year-old former World No.1 is all set to take part in the upcoming edition of the French Open at Roland Garros from Sunday, May 22 and looked pretty upbeat before the clay-court tournament.

Before the 2021 French Open, Osaka clearly stated that she wouldn't be attending media conferences to take care of her mental health. She stuck to her words, after which she faced a $15,000 fine. She was also threatened by all four Grand Slams of suspension and additional punishment.

Later, she pulled out of the French Open, saying that she found it tough to face questions from the press and experienced "huge waves of anxiety".

EVERYONE HAS BEEN POSITIVE

"For the most part, I think I'm OK," Osaka was quoted as saying in a lengthy 18-minute long pre-tournament press conference.

"I'm not going to lie. When I first came here, I was very worried. I was just kind of worried if there would be people that -- of course, I also didn't like how I handled the situation — but I was worried that there were people that I offended in some way, and I would just kind of bump into them," she stated.

"But I think everyone has been really positive, for the most part. I'm not really so sure. I was also very worried about this press conference, because I knew I'd get a lot of questions about this. For me, where I am right now, I wouldn't want to say — it hasn't left my mind. Of course, I'm still thinking about it," Osaka added.

The Osaka-born tennis player is set to lock horns with World No.7 America's Amanda Anisimova in the first round match on Monday, May 23. Osaka has won the US Open and Australian Open two times each, but is yet to taste victory at Roland Garros.
