Covid-19: Children at higher risk in third wave, adults may become source of infection

Experts believe that during the third wave children will be at risk and there are chances that adults will become the source for infections in most cases. Dr Shivaprakash Sosale, an assistant professor at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI), said that there was no substantial evidence suggesting that children would be more affected or have severe Covid-19 in the third wave. But if infections among adults increase, paediatric cases will go up proportionately. He spoke at a virtual interaction held by the Bangalore Apartment Federation (BAF). The session was called ‘BAF Ki Baat – Are kids more susceptible this time round? How to deal with it?’. Thulasi Maddineni, BBMP special commissioner (finance), said that the civic body had bought about 1,000 oxygen concentrators as part of preparations for tackling the third wave. She said that all necessary measures would be taken and that citizens should support the efforts by following Covid-appropriate behaviour.
