Fight against love-jihad: UP conversion ordinance now a law after governor’s approval

On October 31, while speaking at an election rally in Jaunpur, the UP CM Yogi Adityanath promised a strict law against ‘love jihad’. Within a month, the Yogi Adityanath govt passed the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 in the state cabinet. Now, the state's ordinance on unlawful religious conversion was signed into a law by the Uttar Pradesh governor on Saturday. From now on, it is illegal to religiously convert a person unless a two months’ notice is given to the district magistrate declaring one’s intent to convert.
