Has an anti-terror law become a tool to muzzle dissent?
The Centre informed the Lok Sabha in December 2021 that nearly 57 % of those arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act between 2018-2020 were below 30 years of age. Political parties and human rights organisations often alleged that the stringent anti-terror law has been misused. The Centre ruled out to amend the UAPA law despite recent evidence of a large number of acquittals.
