Jagan Mohan chooses Visakhapatnam over Amaravati as new capital of Andhra Pradesh

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Visakhapatnam to be the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. This comes amid Amaravati was being developed as the state's capital. Nine years ago, a new state Telangana was carved out of Andhra. In 2015, the then CM N Chandrababu Naidu declared Amaravati to be the new capital. Again in 2020, Andhra Pradesh planned to have three capital cities — Amaravati, Visakhapatnam and Kurnool. But last year, Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled against three capitals and told the government to develop Amaravati as the capital of the state. Finally, the coastal city of Visakhapatnam has been chosen as the capital and the announcement was made on January 31. YSRCP leaders and workers performed Palabhishekam to CM's photo after he made the announcement.
