J&K Statehood | How Do The People Of Jammu Look At The Future? | Kashmir News | CNN News18

How do the people of Jammu look at the future of Jammu & Kashmir statehood? Will their issues be addressed in the All-Party Meet on June 24?NC president Farooq Abdullah called a meeting of NC leaders of the Jammu region to consult for their decision on PM Modi’s invite for an All Party Meet scheduled on June 24.Centre's Naya Jammu & Kashmir blueprint after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5th, 2019.Prime Minister Narendra Modi will discuss restoring Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)’s statehood when he meets mainstream political parties from the region on Thursday — a significant milestone that India’s top leadership has set its eyes on after months of strategizing by National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, CNN-News18 has learnt from official sources. The sources, who are privy to the developments, said J&K will be granted statehood soon, as promised in the past by PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah, but there will be no talks on restoring the region’s special status. On August 5, 2019, the central government withdrew J&K’s special status under the Article 370 and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two Union Territories — J&K with a legislative assembly and Ladakh without one.The historic move led to the imposition of restrictions on several political leaders and activists in the Kashmir Valley. Gradually, authorities lifted the curbs and released politicians under detention. The restoration of statehood will be counted as the culmination of a monumental achievement by the National Democratic Alliance government, which has nullified all doomsday prognoses about the ramifications of its move to fully integrate J&K in the union of India. In the months since it decided to carve out Ladakh from and administer J&K as a union territory, the government appears on track to securing all of its strategic objectives. The security situation in the Kashmir valley is under control; elections to the district development councils went off peacefully last year; political leaders from Kashmir, who were detained, are back to politicking; and a ceasefire with Pakistan (announced in February) is holding well. The June 24 meeting in this backdrop is significant, as it is being viewed as the beginning of direct talks between the Valley’s leadership and the Centre at this scale. Representatives of regional powerhouses such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC), as well as those from the Centre’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, among others, have been invited for the talks in Delhi.#JammuKashmir #PMModi #J&KNewsSubscribe to our channel for the latest news updates: http://bit.ly/2KGXvAW#GetCloserToTheNews with latest headlines on politics, sports and entertainment on https://bit.ly/2Y4QccLTo stay updated on the go, download the News18 App: · Google Play Store: http://bit.ly/2VcRTRc· Apple App Store: https://apple.co/2JceAmY Follow us for latest news, photos & videos:· Facebook: http://bit.ly/2vOO22u· Twitter: http://bit.ly/2HdNKch· Instagram: http://bit.ly/2PRgfiz.
