Heavy rain, thunderstorm lash Delhi-NCR; trees uprooted, flights affected

Delhi-NCR received heavy rain, along with thunderstorms on Monday. The rain comes as a huge relief from the punishing summer heat. Trees were uprooted in some areas due to the impact of strong winds. Flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were affected due to the bad weather. Traffic movement was also affected in some areas due to heavy downpour. On Sunday, IMD issued an 'orange alert' for the national capital predicting light rain accompanied by squall at the speed of 50-60 kmph on Monday under the influence of a western disturbance. As per the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain and strong winds swept over the adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR.
