No user will be thrown off Whatsapp for not complying with privacy policy, Meta assures Supreme Court
The Supreme Court has asked social media company Whatsapp to make sure no user is thrown off the platform only because he/ she has not complied with Whatsapp's controversial privacy policy. The company assured the top court that no user will be removed from the platform. The company has also denied the allegations of sharing the personal data of its users. The government expected to introduce the Digital Data Protection Bill in the Budget session. Besides Whatsapp, other companies like Meta, Google, Twitter sought to defer the hearing in the case as the government is expected to introduce the Digital Data Protection Bill in the second half of the Budget session. Their contention is that issues related to data sharing by intermediaries like Whatsapp, Twitter could get addressed in the Bill itself, and would perhaps not need the intervention of the court once the Bill is brought in.
