Raigad landslides: 49 dead in Mahad, rescue operations underway at Taliye

Heavy rains triggered a series of landslides in Maharashtra’s Raigad district over the past two days. The worst hit was the Taliye village in Mahad Taluka. As per reports, 49 people have been killed and 47 remain missing in the area. TDRF teams reached the spot on July 24 and began rescue operations. The rescue mission was spotted recovering the body of a toddler from the debris. Villagers reported that boulders fell from a height of 100 feet over the hamlet’s 45 houses. They also alleged that they received no warning from the authorities. However, as per relief and rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar, these locals had been shifted to a safer location from the village a few days back. But they decided to move back recently after the rains receded for some time. Meanwhile, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray is on his way to visit the village and its survivors.
