KUALA LUMPUR: Suhaiza Aziz's debut film 'Eva' has been selected as the winner of Best Thriller/Suspense category for Cannes Film Festival's monthly awards event recently.

With this win, the Malaysian thriller will not only be screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 slated for early next year, but also compete for Best Thriller/Suspense Film category.

In a press statement today, Suhaiza said that she did not expect to win at the monthly competition, as the other two contenders, Deadline from the United Arab Emirates and Ivy from Germany, were equally impressive.

"But when Diyana Ismail (Eva's film producer from D Alpha Legacy Sdn Bhd) showed me the official poster that Eva had been selected to go for the festival, all of us were pleasantly surprised," she said in the statement.

Suhaiza who is understandably thrilled since Eva is also the first film she ever directed, said that she had used the success of other films in the past as her reference as she was not trained in filmmaking, but studied business and accountancy.

Eva was shot in February in the Klang Valley and it only took the production team 15 days to wrap up filming.

The thriller tells the story of three alter egos — Eva, Amy and Mike — trapped in a single body. Eva, being the host body has to deal with the three personalities, which had been developed over the years as a result of a coping mechanism in dealing with childhood trauma. While Eva is a successful lawyer, Amy is a forensic expert and Mike is a murderer!

Among the cast lineup are Nadia Aqila, Nadia Brian, Shamsul Danish, Datuk Jalaludin Hassan, Tony Eusoff, Hasnol Rahmat, Esma Daniel and Norman Hakim.

Meanwhile, Suhaiza said she was currently waiting for the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) to provide the exact dates for the film's local screening in cinemas.
