13 new Covid-19 clusters, 11 involving workplaces

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected 13 new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said 11 of them were workplace clusters, while the remaining two were community clusters.

Four of the clusters were detected in Johor, three in Selangor, two in Kuala Lumpur and one each in Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Sabah and Sarawak.

Clusters that reported the most infections today were the Digital Lapan construction site (131), Tembok Bendera (107) and Jalan Pelabuhan (95) clusters.

The 13 new clusters are:

Johor:

  • Digital Lapan construction site – a workplace cluster involving Kulai and Johor Bahru. Positive cases were reported on Feb 16 after a targeted screening of construction workers at a site in Jalan Digital 8, Taman Perindustrian Kulai. A total of 464 workers were screened, with 133 found to be positive.
  • Jalan Cyber Sembilan – a workplace cluster in Kulai. Positive cases were reported on Feb 20 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory along Jalan Cyber 9, Taman Perindustrian Senai IV. Some 199 people were screened, with 12 testing positive.
  • Jalan Tebrau Pandan – a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru. The index case was detected on Feb 18 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves a supermarket in Jalan Tebrau Pandan. Of the 112 people screened, 18 tested positive.
  • Jalan Wawasan 16 – a workplace cluster in Batu Pahat. The index case tested positive on Feb 18 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves workers at a factory along Jalan Wawasan 16, Kawasan Perindustrian Sri Gading 2. Some 138 individuals have been screened, with seven testing positive.

Selangor:

  • Jalan Damai – a workplace cluster in Klang. Positive cases were reported on Feb 23 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory along Jalan Damai, Kampung Batu Belah. So far, 95 individuals have been screened, with 18 found to be positive.
  • Subang Tiga – a workplace cluster in Petaling. Positive cases were reported on Feb 20 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory along Jalan Subang 3, Subang Jaya Industrial Estate. Of the 68 individuals screened so far, 16 tested positive.
  • Jalan Serendah – a workplace cluster involving Petaling, Sepang, Klang and Gombak. Positive cases were reported on Jan 19 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory in Jalan Serendah, HICOM Industrial Estate, Shah Alam. A total of 1,000 people were screened, with 30 testing positive.

Kuala Lumpur:

  • Jalan Setiawangsa – a workplace cluster in Titiwangsa. Positive cases were reported today after a targeted screening on workers at a supermarket in Taman Setiawangsa. Some 120 individuals have been screened, with 51 found to be positive.
  • Jalan Bayam – a workplace cluster involving Cheras and Titiwangsa. Positive cases were reported on Feb 11 after a targeted screening on workers at a supermarket near Jalan Bayam, Cheras. Of the 128 individuals screened, 13 tested positive.

Negeri Sembilan:

  • Jalan Ekar construction site – a workplace cluster in Seremban. Positive cases were reported on Feb 9 after a targeted screening on construction workers at a site in Jalan Ekar 1/3, Kampung Rantau. Some 170 people were screened, with 50 testing positive.

Sarawak:

  • Jalan Muhibbah – a community cluster in Betong. The index case tested positive on Feb 18 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves a social gathering that took place along Jalan Muhibbah. Of the 110 individuals screened, 18 were found to be positive.

Sabah:

  • Taman Mawar – a community cluster in Sandakan. The index case tested positive today through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves a social gathering that took place in Taman Mawar. All 15 people screened tested positive.

Kedah:

  • Jalan PKNK 3/3 – A workplace cluster in Kuala Muda. Positive cases were reported on Feb 16 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory along Jalan PKNK 3/3, Kawasan Perindustrian Sungai Petani. A total of 255 people were screened, with 40 testing positive.
