6,440 Covid-19 cases, 74 deaths

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 6,440 Covid-19 cases and 74 deaths in the past 24 hours. It is the highest number of cases since last Friday.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 6,861 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 615,326.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 685,204.

There are 65,602 active cases with 894 patients being treated in intensive care and 451 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 74 deaths take the number of fatalities to 4,276.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 2,095, of which 1,198 were detected through close contacts and 134 from clusters.

This was followed by Negeri Sembilan with 870 cases, Kuala Lumpur (816), Johor (592), Sarawak (536), Perak (357), Melaka (223), Kelantan (200), Kedah (159), Labuan (152), Pahang (79) and Terengganu (32).

Putrajaya and Perlis recorded fewer than 10 cases each, with six and two, respectively.

There were 6,435 local infections today, comprising 4,662 Malaysians and 1,773 foreigners, as well as five imported cases.

The 74 deceased comprised 68 Malaysians and six foreigners, aged between 29 and 91. All but 12 had existing medical conditions.

Six were brought in dead.
