NIBONG TEBAL: A Bangladeshi contract worker has died in hospital after he fell while carrying out works at a food processing factory in Jalan Byram here on Monday.

During the 9am incident, the victim was carrying out measuring works to replace the factory’s chimney.

He was rushed to the Penang Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at 2pm the same day.

Following the incident, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) sent a team to the site to investigate.

“We have since issued a prohibition and improvement notices for the employer to carry out the necessary works to prevent a recurrence in future.

“Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident,” DOSH said in a statement.

DOSH said it viewed the accident seriously and legal action would be taken against those who flout the DOSH Act 1994 and the Factories and Machinery Act 1967.

“It is the responsibility of employer and employees to ensure the safety at workplace at all times.
