Covid-19 Watch: 3,471 new cases bring total to 4,440,383 since pandemic began

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 3,471 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday (April 27), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,440,383 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal said 3,461 of Wednesday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions, while 10 were imported cases.

The portal also reported that there were 6,900 recoveries on Wednesday, nearly double the number of new Covid-19 infections.

There are currently 58,436 active Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, with 56,776, or 97.2%, observing home quarantine while 61 individuals are at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.

A total of 1,501 Covid-19 patients, or 2.6% of the total, are currently hospitalised while there are 98 patients in intensive care units (ICUs) nationwide.

Of the ICU admissions, 35 do not require ventilator support while there are 63 patients currently being ventilated.

The ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were six deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday, of which four were classified as brought-in-dead (BID).

This brings the total number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in Malaysia to 35,526 since the pandemic began.
