BATU PAHAT: A fire broke out next to an auto sales centre at Jalan Tanjung Labuh here which saw at least six cars going up in flames.

Batu Pahat Fire and Rescue department chief Ayub Majid said that they received an emergency call about the fire at about 8.26am on Friday (Sept 23).

He said 21 firemen with one Fire Rapid Transit (FRT) vehicle, two Light Fire Rapid Tender (LFRT) vehicles, one water tanker and two Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) were deployed to the scene upon receiving the call.

"Upon arriving at the scene, we found a semi-permanent structure of 40x80 square feet was 80% burnt down. Four motorcycles inside the building were also up in flames.

"The fire also spread to another building next door, which is the auto sales centre. About 5% of the 60x100 square feet building was affected by the fire.

"Also affected by the fire were six cars at the sales centre," he said in a statement here on Friday (Sept 23).

Ayub noted that the four motorcycles were between 40% and 90% burnt while the six cars were 5% burnt.

"The cause of the fire and estimated losses is still under investigation," he said, adding that no injuries were reported during the fire.
