IPOH: The police's tourism unit has been reintroduced to patrol tourist spots in Perak.

State police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said 35 policemen have been assigned to the unit to deal with tourists in five districts.

"They will help provide information to tourists and their presence will make visitors feel safe.

They have already started their duties in tourist hotspots in the state," he said after the launch of the unit and a townhall session on safe tourism at a hotel here on Thursday (June 23).

He said the unit will be active in Ipoh, Taiping, Batu Gajah, Kuala Kangsar and Manjung.

Among the locations the unit will be patrolling are Ipoh Old Town, the railway station, Taiping Lake Gardens, Kellie's Castle, Teluk Batik and the Lumut jetty.

State tourism committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said electric scooters will be donated to the unit to help them with their patrols.
