KUCHING: Firemen had to be called in to remove a pitchfork (prong) that impaled a girl's right thigh in Bintulu early this morning.

A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services Department's Operations Centre (PGO) said that they received a distress call from Bintulu Hospital requesting for special assistance, at around 1.37pm.

Following this, a team of 10 firemen from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Services Department were despatched to the location.

"As soon as the team arrived at Hospital Bintulu, the girl was found to be impaled with a pitchfork on her right thigh."

The team of firemen immediately sprang into action and used special tools to carefully remove the prong without causing any further injury," said the spokesperson, who added that the victim was then treated by the medical personnel on duty.

However, the cause of such an incident in the first place has still yet to be ascertained.
