The fat in salmon is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are considered to be “healthy fats” that are essential for our body to function healthily. Omega 3 fatty acids from wild caught salmon specifically, have been shown in numerous studies to help reduce LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol). These fats have also shown to reduce inflammation in the body in various areas including joints, gastrointestinal, skin and the inflammation associated with many autoimmune disorders. The fat, even though a healthy fat, does provide associated calories, so as with all good nutrition, these fats should be consumed in moderation.
