A royal author claims Prince William "simply can't forgive" Prince Harry for the way he has behaved and "always thought his brother could be his wingman".

Author of The New Royals - Queen Elizabeth's Legacy and the Future of the Crown, Katie Nicholl says the Prince of Wales is highly unlikely to let bygones be bygones - despite united scenes seen following the Queen's death, the Daily Mail reports.

Nicholl told Dan Wootton Tonight that there's no going back now, following Prince Harry's behaviour.

"What he's done and how he's done it, but look at how much now rests on William," she said.

"He always thought Harry would be his wingman, now he's doing it on his own. Thank goodness he's got Kate by his side."

In her book that's soon to hit the shelves, Nicholl talks of the deep division between the Sussexes and other members of the Royal Family.

It comes after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step away from the Royal Family and begin an independent life in the United States in 2020.

According to the Daily Mail, Nicholl wrote about how Prince William and Kate felt "relief" when Harry and Meghan announced their move to the US, claiming they felt that the "drama was gone".

But Nicholl said Queen Elizabeth didn't feel the same way following their relocation announcement, which left her "hurt and exhausted".

In Nicholl's book, a royal source close to Queen Elizabeth claimed she didn't like to think about their decision to leave the Royal Family.
