Fletcher says 5G is no threat to NBN

September 17, 2019. Paul Fletcher, the Minister for Communications, speaks to the media in Canberra about the new 5G technology and how can effect the take-up of the NBN across Australia. Fixed data lines are better placed to deliver high amounts of data reliably. "But it is unlikely to present a significant threat to the NBN business plan," Mr Fletcher says. "It's important to understand the amount data that households are consuming is going up very dramatically. In June this year on the NBN the average user downloaded 255 gigabytes per month, just nine years ago on fixed line networks that number was 11 gigabytes per month". (AAP Video/Marc Tewsksbury)
