At the red carpet premiere of Maid in Malacañang, Yap based his decision to proceed with the film’s production on the pulse of the people from the recent elections.

“Well, I would not continue it, because I’m just going to be very truthful, I don’t think that if BBM lost, it could go, so ibig sabihin, hindi sila gusto, hindi sila tanggap ng tao.”

He also revealed he was waiting for the election results despite having the materials for the film as early as March 2022.

“I’m an exclusive director for Viva, So I just said, what are the technicalities, and then I asked for the lawyer’s opinion, so I researched na since March.

“I got all the research materials before the elections. The only thing that we’re waiting for is the result of the election if President Bongbong will [would] win. So that’s an indication. With 31 Million votes, that’s an overwhelming testament that the Filipino people are ready to hear the side of the Marcoses.”

As for the film, Yap revealed that he had to cut some scenes because they were ‘too courageous.’

“Walang pinabago, pero may mga pinatanggal. My script was very, very courageous, OA sa tapang no. So they wanted to stick to their creed of unity, they don’t want any friction or clash na already. So, pinabait lang, pinabait, pero kung ako masusunod, nilabas kong lahat, pero alam mo naman, hindi na pwede.”

He then clarified that the Maid in Malacañang is a family-crisis drama.

“First and foremost, this is a family-crisis drama. I’m giving them the side of the Marcoses that are very human. So I guess you would all enjoy, you would all enjoy.”

He then shared his reaction to those who ‘hate’ him because of making the movie.

“Sa mga nagagalit sa akin, pumila kayo. Mahaba ang pila. Magkita-kita tayo sa dulo ng linya.”
