Around 2,400 hectares of ricefields and cornfields in Bayambang, Pangasinan were flooded due to the heavy rains brought about by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), Bayambang Mayor Cezar Quiambao said on Saturday.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Quiambao said fishponds and vegetable crops were also flooded.

However, he said things are okay now in the municipality.

"Medyo okay na. Nag-subside na 'yung tubig sa mga barangay," he said.

Quiambao added that 16 barangays were flooded recently due to floodwaters coming from the Tarlac River and Agno River.

"Sobra itong Habagat. Ilang araw na tuloy-tuloy na malakas ang ulan. 'Yun ang dahilan [ng pagbaha]," he said.

Quiambao said there were no reported casualties, but farmers are asking for assistance so they can have seedlings to replace damaged crops.

"Importante ay mabigyan sila ng seedlings, 'yung palay at corn, at mga gulay para makapagtanim silang muli," he said.

He added that the Department of Agriculture has already committed to provide seedlings to affected farmers.

The mayor also said that evacuees who stayed at evacuation centers have already gone back to their homes.

He added that roads are now passable, and power supply is stable. —KG, GMA News
