WITH less than two weeks before the May 9 elections, majority of the supporters of presidential frontrunner Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have already made up their minds and will surely vote for the tandem, PUBLiCUS Asia said Tuesday.

Marcos cemented his huge lead over his rivals after posting a 57 percent voter preference in the April 19 to 21 survey conducted by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. while Duterte-Carpio scored 59 percent.

David Yap Jr., chief data scientist of PUBLiCUS Asia, noted the significant increase in numbers of Marcos and Duterte-Carpio in "firm voters" category.

"Another point of interest if we look closely at the numbers is that the share of the firm BBM (Marcos) voters rose from 70 percent in February to 80 percent in late April," Yap said.

"Similarly, the share of very firm Sara voters rose from 75 percent in February to 80 percent in late April," he added.

Yap explained that based on history, as the election approaches the voters become even more convinced of their candidates.

"I think it is something that all of us voters can attest to that as election date nears we firm up our support, we firm up our preferences and we become more and more committed to the choices that we have made thus far," he said.

"It's a very common occurrence among voters that as election day nears, they become more and more convinced of who they are voting for," he added.

The April Pahayag National Tracker is an independent and non-commissioned nationwide purposive sampling survey conducted from April 19 to 21 with 1,500 respondents.

In the survey, Marcos was 36 percentage points ahead of his closest rival, Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo, who even saw a 2 percent decline with her 21 percent voter preference.

At far third is Manila Mayor "Isko Moreno" Domagoso who got six percent voter preference. He was followed by Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson who got 4 percent and Sen. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao, 2 percent.

Marcos also remained the top choice in all voting areas — 44 percent in the National Capital Region, 62 percent in North Central Luzon, 45 percent in South Luzon, 57 percent in the Visayas and 72 percent in Mindanao.

The standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas also enjoys significant support from all economic classes — 50 percent in Class ABC, 60 percent in Class D and 73 percent in Class E.
