The Bayan Muna party-list is planning to file charges against police personnel who were supposedly involved in electioneering during Monday's elections in Manila. In a statement, Bayan Muna party-list nominee Ferdinand Gaite slammed members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who were caught on video and photographs distributing tabloids containing articles unfavorable to progressive party-lists under the Makabayan Coalition.

According to him, volunteers of election watchdog Kontra Daya caught PNP members handing out to voters a tabloid titled "Pulis Serbis Balita," identified as the "The Official Newsletter of the Philippine National Police" near the polling precinct at Geronimo Elementary School in Sampaloc, Manila.

This paper allegedly carried the headline "Kabataan, Nanguna sa Pagkondena sa Legal Fronts at Political Parties na Sumusuporta sa CPP/NPA (Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army) and articles against party-lists Bayan Muna, Kabataan, ACT Teachers, Anakpawis, and the Gabriela Women's Party.

Kontra Daya volunteers supposedly confronted police officers stationed at the Manila Police District Assistance Desk to secure the elections in the area.

Said cops were reportedly under the instruction of PNP Community Relations Group under Police Chief Supt. Rhodel Sermonia, according to Gaite.

If found guilty, the supposedly erring police personnel will be slapped with a penalty of one month suspension to dismissal from service, he added.

Earlier in the day, nominees of the Makabayan Coalition party-lists also belied reports that they have been disqualified in the elections. —NB, GMA News
