The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday said the number of reported fireworks-related injuries from December 21, 2022 to January 6, 2023 rose to 307.

The Health Department said at least 16 additional fireworks-related injuries were recorded from sentinel hospitals as of January 6.

The DOH said this was 62% higher than the 189 cases reported in the same period last year.

According to the department, 306 were injured due to fireworks while only one case was due to a stray bullet.

At least 113 patients were injured in the hand, 86 in the eye, 42 on the head, 37 on the legs, and 35 on the forearm or arms.

The DOH said there were no reported cases of fireworks ingestion.

The top fireworks involved in mishaps were kwitis, boga, and 5-star.

The department earlier reminded the public to avoid picking up used firecrackers along the road.

Meanwhile, those who are injured due to firecrackers must go to the nearest health facility for immediate proper treatment. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
