Some drivers of traditional jeepneys in Mandaluyong City have resorted to begging due to lack of income, according to Super Radyo dzBB’s Mark Makalalad on Monday.

In his report on Dobol B sa News TV, Makalalad said the jeepney drivers, who were not able to ply their routes for three months, were using a plastic gallon with a note “pangkain lang” to ask for coins from passers by.

He said the drivers were able to receive P2,000 financial assistance from the local government but this was not enough to provide for the needs of their respective families.

The drivers appealed to the government to allow traditional jeepneys to ply their routes, the report said.

In an interview on Unang Hirit, Engr. Alberto Suansing, Department of Transportation road sector senior consultant, said the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is crafting guidelines for the resumption of operation of traditional jeepneys.—AOL, GMA News
