THE Social Security System (SSS) announced on Friday that self-employed members from 60 to 64 years old must now submit their retirement benefit claims online through the My.SSS Portal starting July 1.

In a statement, SSS said this is in addition to the need that all employee-members, volunteer members, land-based overseas Filipino workers members, and self-employed members 65 years of age and older at the time of retirement, register online beginning in July 2020, according to a statement from the organization.

"All they need to do is to access their My.SSS account, click Apply for Retirement Benefit under the Benefits section of the E-Services tab, fill out the required information, and submit the required supporting documents," SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Regino, was quoted as saying.

The state-run pension fund said a member who has attained the required retirement age and is no longer able to work would get a retirement benefit in cash. For individuals who made at least 120 monthly contributions before the semester of retirement, it can take the form of a monthly pension, or for those who made fewer than 120 contributions, it can take the form of a lump sum.
