Former Cebu governor Emilio "Lito" Osmeña Jr. passed away on Monday, his son Mimo confirmed on Facebook. He was 82 years old.

"So long dad! You will always be a part of us," he wrote, accompanied by a photo of his late father. "Thank you is not enough."

Osmeña, a grandson of former president Sergio Osmeña and the brother of the late former senator John Henry Osmeña, served as governor of Cebu from 1988 to 1992.

He was picked as the running mate of former Defense Secretary Fidel V. Ramos in the 1992 presidential elections. He would later serve as Ramos' chief economic adviser.

He was also known as the founder of the Probinsya Muna Development Initiative (Promdi), which is based in Cebu.
