Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Friday called on the International Criminal Court to expedite its investigation on the charges filed against President Rodrigo Duterte amid the latter’s remarks that his only sin is extrajudicial killings.

“That admission will be taken seriously by the International Criminal Court. So in this same vein, I would like to take this opportunity to call on the ICC to expedite the investigation of the crimes against humanity committed by Mr. Duterte against the Filipino people,” Trillanes said at a press conference.

He said Malacañang cannot hide behind the defense that the President was only joking when he made the remark.

“Those remarks uttered in unguarded moments, ‘yun ‘yung mga  bits of truth na lumalabas dito kay Duterte. Madalas itong nagsisinungaling pero ‘yung mga ganyang unguarded moments d’yan lumalabas ‘yung kanyang saloobin,” he said.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque earlier said Duterte was just being his playful self when he seemingly admitted to be behind the extrajudicial killings during his term.

In a speech before new career government officials in Malacañang, the President said he did not steal even a peso from government.

“Ano kasalanan ko? Nagnakaw ba ako dyan ni piso? Did I prosecute somebody na pinakulong ko? Ang kasalanan ko lang 'yung mga extrajudicial killing,” he said.

Duterte, however, said that there was no evidence to implicate him in the killings which he blamed on ninja cops.

"4,000 deaths. When? Where? How? What did I use? Wala," he said. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
