Most adults have been so jaded by the world that very little ever shocks them anymore. It’s not the same for kids who have just started learning about the realities of life, like this girl who has gone viral for her reaction to ozone layer depletion.

On Saturday, Leizel Porras-Dador posted a video of her 7-year-old daughter Empress showing the girl crying her eyes out after her older sister told her all about the ozone layer.

In a Facebook message to Coconuts Manila Dador said that she regularly asks her daughters to share what they learned in school, which is how the conversation started.

Princess, her older daughter talked about what would happen if the ozone layer gets totally destroyed: “When it gets warm, plants will rot and we will run out of air,” she explains in Filipino.

That’s when Empress started to bawl.

In the video, Empress can be seen crying, jumping around, and hugging her mother while saying that she’s scared. “Mama, you said we were safe,” she says at one point.

We feel you, kid.

The concerned Empress also said she was worried about dying. Her mother consoled her by saying that they’re “just talking about it” and reminded her that that’s why plastic should not be burned.

As of this article’s posting, the video has received 2 million views, 40,000 shares, and 18,000 reactions.

A lot of netizens found the video cute and hilarious but some were also critical of how Dador handled the situation, saying that it could be traumatic for the child.

The mother told Coconuts Manila: “So many people got mad at me … but they don’t even know what happened after [the video].

She said that she actually sat down with Empress after the video was taken and explained the topic to her more thoroughly.

In another video Dador sent to Coconuts Manila, she talks to a much calmer Empress about the, er, hot topic. She talks about how scientists are working on preventing ozone depletion and tells her daughter to not worry about it anymore.

According to Dador, her daughter usually reacts this way. She said Empress was also worried about the “The Big One,” the massive earthquake that is expected to hit the Philippines and other parts of the world.

What do you think of his video? Did you react this intensely to school lessons when you were a child? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @CoconutsManila.
