Merwin Tan secured his second gold medal as he and the national team ruled the men's team bowling event of the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Thursday in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The quartet of Tan, Christian Dychangco, Ivan Malig, and Patrick Nuqui reigned supreme in the event to hike the country's gold medal tally to 39.

The feat made Tan a two-time gold medalist in the Vietnam Games after he ended the country's 11-year title drought in the men's singles event last Monday.

Meanwhile, several Filipino chess players bagged medals for the country.

IM Paulo Bersamina and GM Darwin Laylo copped the silver in the men's team rapid tournament while the women's team composed of WIM MArie Antoinette San Diego and WGM Janelle Mae Frayna settled for bronze in the women's team rapid tiff.
