It was all fun and games for Team Lakay after what has been a grueling fight week following ONE: Roots of Honor this past Friday which took place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The promotion showcased two Team Lakay fighters in Joshua Pacio and Edward Kelly defeat their respective opponents that evening.

In the main event, Pacio reclaimed the ONE strawweight world title by way of fourth-round knockout over Yosuke Saruta.

Kelly, meanwhile, won by second-round technical knockout against South Korean grappler Sung Jong Lee.

"I planned for the team to go to Bataan after the fights. We thought of going on a vacation at Five Fingers in Mariveles," shared Kelly, a Bataan resident.

"We are going for a swim and team building. It is going to be an outdoor trip. There will be trekking and cliff diving as well."

The trip was, however, planned ahead of time, and the team was headed to Five Fingers regardless of what would have been the results of their bouts that evening.

It all turned out for the better eventually, as Team Lakay not only took a well deserved vacation, but also took home the highly-coveted ONE strawweight world title back with them.

Pacio, admittedly still sore from his latest outing, was ecstatic about the team building even though he missed some of the activities he was looking forward to.

"I was able to swim, but had to skip cliff diving which was the fun part," Pacio quipped. "It was a good vacation, but I will be back to training right away when I get home."

It was a hard-earned break from the punishing world of professional MMA to say the least. After losing four its world titles in a span of three months in 2019, Team Lakay's headmaster Mark Sangiao finally had a brief sigh of relief with a little help of vitamin sea. — BAP, GMA News
