TNT and Barangay Ginebra, champions of the previous season, carved out easy wins Friday night in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

TNT breezed past luckless Terrafirma, 114-86, as reigning scoring champion Mikey Williams put on another explosive performance.

Williams finished with a season-high 31 points, including six triples, to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.

With Williams showing another excellent shooting display, the Tropang Giga were able to extend their winning streak to five and remain as the hottest team in the tournament. TNT improved its win-loss record to 7-2 and secured an outright seat in the quarterfinal round.

JP Erram added 18 points and nine rebounds for the Tropang Giga, who scored 26 turnover points, 21 more than their rivals.

RR Pogoy contributed 15 markers, Jayjay Alejandor added 11 and Jaydee Tungcab chipped in 10 for TNT, which scored 22 second chance points compared to only 10 by Terrafirma, the only winless team in the Philippine Cup.

Key players Isaac Go and Ed Daquioag did not play for Terrafirma due to injuries.

In the other game, Barangay Ginebra easily disposed of Converge, 105-89, to notch its fifth win in six games.

Scottie Thompson, the reigning league MVP, finished with 24 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists while Japeth Aguilar came away with a double-double performance of 20 points and 11 boards for the Gin Kings, who won their first game minus head coach Tim Cone.

Cone has been invited to be an assistant coach for the NBA Summer League team of the Miami Heat.

Richard del Rosario, Cone's deputy, took over the coaching reins and was given full authority by his long-time mentor to coach the way he wanted to handle the squad.

"I got a text message from him to coach it my way," said Del Rosario.

With Del Rosario on board, Barangay Ginebra came out loose and moved comfortably.

Christian Standhardinger also had a double-double showing of 13 points and 13 rebounds while Stanley Pringle produced 11 for the Gin Kings, who scored 42 points inside the paint, 10 more than their rivals.

Team Standings: Ginebra (5-1), San Miguel (5-1), Blackwater (4-1), TNT (7-2), NLEX (4-2), Meralco (3-3), Magnolia (3-3), NorthPort (2-4), Converge (2-5), Phoenix (2-5), Rain or Shine (1-5), Terrafirma (0-6).
