We’re a workaholic culture, and it’s easy to get so wrapped up in our work, it takes up every element of our day. That probably includes eating lunch at your desk while your brain is wrapped up in your computer.

Turns out, that’s not only bad for our work-life balance, but it’s also terrible for our diet. Not paying attention to what we are eating leads to a lot of random grazing during the day — probably more than any of us can imagine, says a new study.

The survey, via Dutch food brand Kallø, says those extra calories add up to 100,000 extra calories per year for the average woman. In fact, according to The Sun, the average woman will eat 135 cookies, 90 slices of cake, 90 packets of sweets and 45 doughnuts a year while at work and probably so distracted she’s not even fully appreciating all those calories and grams of sugar she’s putting in her mouth.

It seems most of this snacking, according to the survey, is happening between 10:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m., which makes sense to any of us who have ever been stuck at a desk staring at the clock. How do we unpack this information? Well, if you find yourself to be one these office snackers, maybe pack some healthy treats like cut up veggies or hummus so you can keep things under control. That will of course ultimately add up too, but we do what we can.
