SINGAPORE - The father of two 11-year-old boys found dead at Greenridge Crescent in Upper Bukit Timah has been arrested and will be charged with murder.

The 48-year-old man will be charged in court on Monday (24 January) over the death of his two sons, the Singapore Police Force said on Saturday.

The two boys were discovered dead at Greenridge Crescent playground, a secluded park in the Toh Yi estate at Upper Bukit Timah, on Friday evening.

The police said it received a call for assistance from the boys' father on Friday.

When police officers arrived at the scene, the man's two sons were found lying motionless in the vicinity of the playground and were pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

The police followed up on all possible leads and conducted "round-the-clock" investigations, which led to the arrest of the man, the SPF added.

The Straits Times reported that officers from the police's Gurkha contingent were at the location in the afternoon on Saturday, and were seen walking inside a canal nearby and combing the forested area behind the playground.

Police vehicles were also parked along Greenridge Crescent, and officers dressed in plain clothes were spotted speaking to residents around the estate, the national broadsheet reported.

Murder carries the death penalty.
