  • <p>It's that horrible sinking feeling. Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light suddenly illuminates, or your steering starts to feel way too heavy. You have a flat tire, and it will have to be replaced before your journey can continue. Fortunately, changing a tire is pretty easy.</p><p>Whatever you do, don’t ignore any signs of an impending flat tire. Not only can your vehicle quickly become uncontrollable, but driving even a few hundred yards on a flat tire can cause significant damage to your rims, suspension, and even fenders. It can mean the difference between a tire that can be repaired or one that has to be replaced.</p><p>“If that light suddenly comes on, you probably have a problem,” says Michael Calkins, manager of technical services for <a href="https://www.aaa.com/stop/">AAA</a>. “You have a limited amount of time to find somewhere safe to change your tire. You don’t want to ignore it.”</p><p>If your vehicle is equipped with run-flat tires, you can continue on a punctured tire at a reduced speed. There are new family-friendly features plus more side-to-side second-row seat adjustability and an all-new Android-based infotainment system. The biggest dimensional change is an ever so slight (0.7 inch) narrowing of overall width, done for the purposes of reducing frontal area and improving aerodynamics. This means that total interior volume shrinks slightly, but cargo volume remains consistent, and all three rows are still habitable by adults. The <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/toyota/sienna/2017">2017 Toyota Sienna’s</a> 3.5-liter V6 produces 296 horsepower, while the Pacifica’s 3.6-liter V6 cranks out 287 horsepower. Siennas use a new-for-2017 eight-speed automatic, and the <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/chrysler/pacifica/2017">2017 Chrysler Pacifica</a> employs a nine-speed automatic.</p><p>In their standard configurations, both vans are front-wheel drive, but the Sienna is also available as an all-wheel drive model, making it the only vehicle in the segment to offer the confidence-inspiring technology. When equipped with all-wheel drive, the Sienna becomes a viable alternative to a 3-row SUV.</p><p>Sporty handling is not something that you typically think of when it comes to minivans, but the Pacifica is surprisingly agile for its size. Most models of the Sienna place ride comfort above handling, but the Sienna SE has a firmer suspension and is more agile than other Sienna trims.</p>

  • The 2018 Odyssey will make active safety tech standard on almost every trim (EX and up). Especially for a vehicle as family-focused as a minivan, this is a great addition. (The Toyota Sienna makes similar tech standard on every trim.) Honda's active safety tech package includes a collision-mitigation braking system, a lane keeping assist system, and adaptive cruise control—the first two are features I've really appreciated on other Hondas. The 2017 Odyssey is still a safe car, but the 2018 Odyssey will be better at helping you avoid an accident. Even so, the 2017 Odyssey has a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick. It does, however, have a Basic rating for front crash prevention, whereas the new 2018 Odyssey will likely earn the top rating of Superior.

  • <li><strong>Kia's hotly anticipated Stinger sports sedan will go up against the best of the best, from BMW, Audi, and Lexus.</strong></li><li><strong>I tested the car in the San Francisco Bay Area for a few days.</strong></li><li><strong>The Stinger blew me away.</strong></li><p><br> South Korean carmaker Kia is better known for slightly offbeat, value-oriented cars than for high-performance wheels, but that changed with the introduction last year of the Stinger.</p><p> It was the toast of the auto-show circuit and a clear play on Kia's part to redefine the brand with a classic "halo" car - in this case, a rear-wheel-drive, go-fast machine with a game-changing exterior design and a very inviting price tag, relative to the upmarket competition. We're talking ten grand or more less than a German sports sled.</p><p> We were absolutely salivating over the Stinger, so when I recently traveled to the West Coast and escaped the miseries of winter in the New York metro area, I jumped at the chance to spend a few days behind the wheel. Here's how it went:</p>

  • <p>The BMW M5 has been around for over 30 years, and each generation has been drastically improved compared to the last. As the <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/bmw/5-series/2018/photos-exterior">2018 BMW M5</a> moves into its sixth generation, it undoubtedly continues the legacy of BMW’s performance brand. M5s of the past have been lauded for their innate ability to feel equally comfortable either on public roads or private tracks.</p><p>BMW has improved the M5’s engine, interior, and looks to deliver one of the most impressive performance sedans on the market. The new M5 is lighter, faster, and even comes standard with BMW’s new xDrive four-wheel drive system with rear-wheel-drive-only capability.</p><p>However, while many enthusiasts were hoping that BMW would bring back a manual transmission to the M family, the M5 only comes with an eight-speed automatic.   • <li><strong>Kia's hotly anticipated Stinger sports sedan will go up against the best of the best, from BMW, Audi, and Lexus.</strong></li><li><strong>I tested the car in the San Francisco Bay Area for a few days.</strong></li><li><strong>The Stinger blew me away.</strong></li><p><br> South Korean carmaker Kia is better known for slightly offbeat, value-oriented cars than for high-performance wheels, but that changed with the introduction last year of the Stinger.</p><p> It was the toast of the auto-show circuit and a clear play on Kia's part to redefine the brand with a classic "halo" car - in this case, a rear-wheel-drive, go-fast machine with a game-changing exterior design and a very inviting price tag, relative to the upmarket competition. We're talking ten grand or more less than a German sports sled.</p><p> We were absolutely salivating over the Stinger, so when I recently traveled to the West Coast and escaped the miseries of winter in the New York metro area, I jumped at the chance to spend a few days behind the wheel. The base model of the Camry is now the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid sedan in the class.</p><p>The 2018 Toyota Camry L earns an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and 41 on the highway. Most other trim levels of the Camry receive EPA mileage estimates of 28 city/39 highway. The top mileage performer in the 2018 Sonata lineup is the Eco model. It is rated at 28 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway. Most Sonata models score EPA-estimated mileage of 25 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway.</p><p>If you opt for the most powerful models in the Camry and Sonata lineups, their EPA mileage estimates are nearly identical, despite the fact that the Camry uses a V6, while the Sonata has a turbocharged four-cylinder.</p><p>Toyota and Hyundai also offer hybrid models of their midsize sedans. The <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/toyota/camry-hybrid/2018">2018 Toyota Camry Hybrid</a> has been fully redesigned like its gasoline-only counterpart. There’s a <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/hyundai/sonata-hybrid/2018">2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid</a> coming sometime in the future, but the current 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will continue to be available until the 2018 model arrives. While not as athletic or powerful as the all-wheel-drive <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/2017-ford-focus-rs">Focus RS</a>, it provides enthusiasts with a welcome balance of utility, performance, and sporty good looks at a reasonable price.</p><p>The Focus ST remains mostly unchanged for the 2017 model year. It was added to the Focus’ lineup in the summer of 2012 as a 2013 model. Since then, the third-generation compact hatchback hasn’t been significantly redesigned. Although the ST underwent some updates in 2015, including refreshed interior and exterior styling, an upgraded infotainment system, and optional all-season tires.</p><p>The ST is only available as a four-door, five-seat, front-wheel-drive hatchback. It offers drivers about 100 more horsepower than a base Focus, as well as nimble handling, responsive steering, and strong braking. With the base 158-hp, 138 lb-ft of torque 2.0-liter I-4, the Civic sedan accelerated to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds in Motor Trend testing. The Civic's available 174-hp, 162 lb-ft turbocharged 1.5-liter turbo-four did the deed in just 7.2 seconds. In comparison, the Corolla's 132-hp, 128 lb-ft 1.8-liter I-4 could only muster a 9.8-second acceleration run to 60 mph. Although all three engines are offered with a manual transmission, all our testing was done with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) option.

  • <p><strong>Deal: $585 per month for 24 months with $1,200 due at signing</strong></p><p>The all-new <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/volkswagen/atlas/2018">Volkswagen Atlas</a> is a <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/rankings/midsize-suvs">midsize SUV</a> that can fit the whole family across three comfortable and spacious rows of seating. This lease is good for a base Atlas S that has been upgraded with the optional 3.6-liter V6 engine and Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. The Atlas S also includes LED headlights, a rearview camera, and an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touch screen.</p><p>The terms of this lease, which includes 12,000 miles a year, were configured with Volkswagen’s payment estimator.</p>

The <a href="https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/rankings/luxury-midsize-suvs">luxury midsize SUV</a> has excellent fuel economy, strong safety scores, and standard all-wheel drive. The RX Hybrid gets 31 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.</p><p>The spacious, upscale interior accommodates five passengers. The RX 450h has a smaller cargo hold than rival SUVs, at 55.9 cubic feet, but it is easy to load. The SUV has 40/20/40 split-folding seats, but they do not fold flat.</p><p>Lease the Lexus RX Hybrid with all-wheel drive through January 31. Lessee covers 25 cents per mile over a 10,000-mile-per-year limit.</p>

  • The new Ram will be available in either Quad Cab or Crew Cab configuration with interior options from vinyl to premium leather. The Ram will initially be available with either a 305-horsepower 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 or a 395-horsepower 5.87-liter HEMI V8 powertrain, and both will be equipped with the eTorque mild hybrid system, which adds up to 90 lb-ft of torque for the V6 and 130 lb-ft for the HEMI. This system combines a belt-driven motor generator unit with a 48-volt battery for seamless start / stop function, a short-duration torque boost to the driveline and brake energy regeneration. Both engines are teamed with an electronic TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission.

  • Nissan’s premium brand selected the Detroit show to provide a peek at what the next generation of Infiniti vehicles might look like. Easily one of the most beautiful cars at the show, the Q Inspiration echoes the basic shapes of current Infiniti designs but with much more interesting details. At the front, the grille opening resembles a Q50; however, the concept has a grille within the grille. Bladelike headlights sweep back and comingle with sharp louvers in the hood. Lines trail back to broad shoulders over the rear wheels, meeting at a single-strip brake light that wraps around the back of the car.
