Longtime fixed-gear bike maker State Bicycle Co. makes its first foray into the pedal-assist market with the new 6061 eBike Commuter, a singlespeed (fittingly) Class 1 ebike driven by a rear hub motor.

The 6061 name comes from the bike’s 6061 aluminum frame and fork. Riders can flip among five levels of pedal assist (via a controller on the left side of the handlebars) up to 20 mph provided by a 250W AKM rear brushless hub drive powered by a 360Wh LG lithium battery. The battery charges in 3.5 hours. Key data like speed, assist level, distance, and battery life remaining can be read on an LCD display mounted over the bike’s stem.

State says the sub-40-pound 6061 eBike Commuter can exceed 100 miles of range on a single charge in its lowest assist level, and will go 18 to 24 miles on Level 5 maximum assist. Recommended load capacity tops out at 330 pounds.

Component spec includes a set of cable-actuated disc brakes with 160-millimeter front and rear rotors, 700 x 40c ebike-rated Kenda tires, and a chain-based singlespeed drivetrain. At online checkout, customers can add accessories like lights, a U-lock or chain lock, colored platform pedals, a kickstand, and a water bottle cage for the frame’s seat tube bosses.
