Tesla deserves credit for proving that an electric car doesn’t have to be a slow, boring golf cart.
The California-based company is venerated as an automotive hero for making cars that match or exceed the performance of conventionally-powered models without burning a drop of fuel. It’s a disruptor, to use one of Silicon Valley’s darling terms, but it’s not the first company to take a different approach to car design.
