Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) provide access to off-roading in a way that no other park or trail does. They give enthusiasts the opportunity to see rural America over a preplanned route so navigation can be a little more relaxed than on an exploration-heavy adventure. To add to the ever-expanding list of BDRs, Wyoming is opening its own on February 1, 2022.

Wyoming’s BDR is slated to be the 11th track of its kind. Although it’s motorcycle-exclusive, it does give a look into the stunning scenery that graces the state’s countryside. Presented by BMW Motorrad USA and the Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation, the new route is claimed to be the most remote track the organization has created. It spans more than a thousand miles and touches peaks as high as the summit of two 11,000-foot-tall mountains. The assortment of terrain is vast, with high deserts, gorges, and mining towns all along the route.

While we wish the Wyoming BDR was open for ATV and UTV use, we appreciate the organization’s dedication to allowing for outdoor exploration, and look forward to hearing stories from the trail. It’s inspiring to think what could be done with the concept in states that allow UTVs to be road-registered.
