The Florida Department of Transportation has completed an Interstate 95 bridge deck replacement project for two highway exits in St. Lucie County, returning the speed limit to 70 mph and re-opening all interstate lanes.

The project replaced the bridge decks for the Glades Cut Off Road and Florida East Coast Railroad intersection at mile marker 125 in Port St. Lucie, and the Ten Mile Creek bridge just south of Okeechobee Road, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Kathleen Dempsey, community outreach specialist for the department, said the project was completed July 31 and totaled $13.46 million. The construction was completed two weeks earlier than the department's estimated finish date.

"It was slated to finish in mid-August," Dempsey said, ""So the project was finished slightly earlier than expected." Construction began in July 2017.

On top of replacing the bridge decks leading to the highway exits, the project also resurfaced parts of the road and re-striped the approaches, Dempsey said. The speed limit was reduced to 60 mph in the area during construction.

This was the only major interstate construction project in St. Lucie County, Dempsey said. All lanes are now open on I-95 and the scene has been cleared of construction vehicles.
