PLYMOUTH – Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning that sent a dump truck into Otter Creek.

Research

At 9:18 a.m., the Sheboygan County Emergency Communication Center received a call about a crash at State Highway 57 and County Road J in Plymouth. A preliminary investigation found that a compact SUV was headed east on County J, stopped at a stop sign at State 57, then pulled into the path of a dump truck, according to the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office.

After impact, the dump truck traveled off the road, broke through a guard rail and went into the creek, Sheboygan County Sheriff's Lt. Larry Perronne said.

The driver of the SUV, a 42-year-old woman from rural Grafton, and the driver of the dump truck, a 64-year-old Kiel man, received minor injuries. The SUV's passenger, a 22-year-old Port Washington woman, had serious injuries that were not life-threatening. All three people were transported to hospitals.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was called to the scene to inspect potential hazards to wildlife in the creek — standard protocol if a vehicle enters a waterway, Perronne said.

The intersection was closed for about four hours after the crash, Perronne said. It has since been reopened and the dump truck was removed from the waterway.

The crash remains under investigation.
