Sky 4 video showed the CSX train and the large truck at the crash scene at Route 88 and Maple Glenn Road in the borough of Centerville.

Jeff Yates, the county's public safety director, said the estimated 4,000 gallons of spilled acid appeared to have remained on the tracks. Late Tuesday night, the HAZMAT team was preparing to leave the scene after hours of cleanup.

Roads in the area were closed during the emergency response. The train tracks, owned by Norfolk Southern, were also closed. Emergency dispatchers said about a dozen homes were evacuated as a precaution. Those people were being told they could return home late Tuesday night.

Hydrochloric acid is corrosive to the eyes, skin and mucous membranes and can cause burns if inhaled, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The CSX train was carrying empty coal cars when the truck pulled in front of it at a crossing marked by crossbucks, Norfolk Southern spokesman Jonathan Glass said.

The truck driver was flown to the hospital. Glass said the train's engineer and conductor were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
