Ford issued two safety recalls for certain newer pickups and SUVs due to faulty transmissions this weekend. The first, and largest, of the two recalls involves around 350,000 F-150s, heavy duty trucks and Expedition SUVs.

In that recall, an unseated gear shift cable locking clip can leave the transmission in a different gear than the driver selected. Meaning, the affected vehicle can move while in park, increasing the risk of a crash. So far, one accident and injury has been reported.

Certain model year 2018 Ford F-150, F-650, F-750 and Expedition vehicles equipped with a six- or 10-speed automatic transmission are affected.

To fix the issue, dealers will inspect the shift cable locking clip and secure it, if necessary, at no cost to the customer.

The second recall Ford issued is much smaller, involving 161 vehicles across its lineup. Some model years 2017 and 2018 F-150s, along with model year 2018 Expeditions, Mustangs and Lincoln Navigators are affected.

In the faulty vehicles, the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission may be missing a roll pin that attaches the park pawl rod guide clip to the transmission case. If this remains unfixed, the transmission can lose its park function over time.

So far no reports of accidents or injuries have been link to this specific recall. To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and make the appropriate repairs, at no cost to the customer.

If you’d like to see if the vehicle you drive is affected, or to search any open recalls, enter your car’s VIN on the NHTSA recall website.
