A Houston police officer collided with another vehicle early Wednesday at a northwest Houston intersection while responding to an call, officials said.

The officer was driving east on Hempstead Road around 12:02 a.m. when he collided with a vehicle traveling south on Fairbanks North Houston Road, according to the Houston Police Department. The emergency lights of the officer's vehicle were turned on, police said.

Police did not say how fast the officer was driving or what caused the collision.

An adult and juvenile passenger in the other vehicle were taken to the hospital "as a precaution," police said. The driver of the vehicle reported no injuries. The officer was taken to the hospital for shoulder pain.

The police department's vehicular crimes division is investigating the crash.
