DIGGINS, Mo. (KY3) - The Missouri Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a truck and a train in Diggins.

Troopers responded to the crash around noon. The crash happened just off of U.S. 60.

Investigators say the freight train hit an MFA semi truck. One person involved in the crash was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers say the semi driver told them they could not see or hear the train coming. The train slammed through the trailer of the truck before it could stop. Investigators say the driver was trying to get on U.S. Route 60 from Box School Loop.

Meg Daniel, an Ozark resident who was stuck in traffic before the crash, explains what she saw.

“Oh, I’m heartbroken, I hope there’s not a fatality,” said Daniel. “It looks like an awful accident, it’s a big mangled mess.”

“We are so fortunate it didn’t happen when we were driving by because that would have been terrifying and scary,” said Daniel.

Construction crews have been repairing signs and removing debris by the side of the road. The train started moving again around 4 p.m., several hours following that crash.

Additional details are limited, but we will update as more information becomes available.
