The Roebling Bridge will reopen Friday, four days ahead of schedule.

The east side pedestrian walkway and the roadway will be open to traffic by no later than 6 p.m. on Friday, officials said.

The west side pedestrian walkway will remain closed to allow for final repairs.

The iconic bridge spans the Ohio River, connecting Cincinnati and Covington, Kentucky.

A March crash forced the long-term closure of the bridge, causing significant structural damage.

The 151-year-old structure was damaged when a car hit a primary vertical column on March 20, cracking and distorting it.

The column was not part of the original structure but had been installed during a reconstruction project to strengthen the bridge in the 1890s.
