Sep. 29—Two men are dead after a head-on crash in East Manatee County on Tuesday afternoon, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred around 5:13 p.m. on State Road 64 near the road's intersection with SW Oak Point Drive, according to FHP.

A 29-year-old Sarasota man was driving a Honda Civic sedan in the eastbound lane of S.R. 64 approaching Oak Point Drive, troopers say, while a 54-year-old Wauchula man was driving a Dodge SUV westbound.

Troopers say that as the Sarasota man attempted to follow a left-hand curve in the roadway, his car crossed into the westbound traffic lane, where the front right of the sedan hit the front left of the SUV.

The collision sent both vehicles rotating across the roadway, according to FHP.

Manatee County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced both men dead at the scene of the crash.

The westbound lane of S.R. 64 was partially blocked on Tuesday as emergency crews worked at the crash scene.

On Tuesday night, troopers continued to gather evidence at the scene, according to FHP.
